Photovoltaic
Photovoltaic technology makes it possible directly to transform solar energy striking the earth’s surface into electrical energy by using the properties of silicon, a semiconductor element much used in electronic components. The installations are made up of a number of photovoltaic panels called modules that are connected by means of cables to an electrical board. Solar energy is transformed by these panels in the form of tension parameters and direct current, and is converted into alternating current by means of apparatus called inverters. The modules are supported by special structures that determine their direction towards the sun. The efficiency of the installation as a whole is monitored by a control system that measures the working parameters and signals any anomalies. Photovoltaic installations connected to the grid will be covered by manufacturer’s guarantee for 25 years from commissioning. During this period of time, the output of the modules (that is the capacity of transforming solar energy into electrical energy) will not fall below 80% of the initial level. It is estimated that with the benefit of incentives available to the Energy Account, high levels of insulation and extremely low maintenance costs, the depreciation period is a mere 10-11 years.
